How are you holding up?
Studies show that parents of kids with higher needs experience more stress, illness, depression and anxiety than other parents. One study found mothers of young adults with behavioral issues had cortisol patterns (stress hormones) comparable to combat soldiers. Chronic stress creeps up. Burning out is not an option. If we’re falling apart, we can’t offer our kids the compassion and connection they need to thrive. We can’t stop the stress, but we can learn to respond to it in healthier ways. Give yourself permission to practice. Self-care isn’t selfish, it’s vital.
